Overview
Sonn Cuticle Nail Oil was born out of mutual values of using natural remedies to heal and soothe our skin. A nail oil that is formulated with simple and natural ingredients to aid in the growth of stronger new nails, soothe and protect cuticles from dryness that often occurs through frequent hand washing and use of alcoholic sanitizers.
Background
En and I were noticing how dry our hands became and cracked our cuticles were from the pandemic over-washing and the frequent use of hand sanitizers. I was also suffering from extreme dry skin and eczema causing my cuticles to become inflamed and my nails to grow out weaken and brittle. After going to a dermatologist I receive a steroid treatment that was able to heal my eczema, but left my skin thin, sensitive, and prone to splitting. My nail beds were still inflamed and I sought out a remedy to nourish, protect, and put moisture back into my cuticles. My inflamed nail beds were also causing my new nail growth to grow brittle and wavy.

Problem overview
Most of the cuticle oils we found contained ingredients that caused my sensitive skin to react poorly. Many contained artificial colorants and fragrances that are common irritants for sensitive skin. Because we would need to re-apply moisture back to our nails after hand-washing and sanitizer use, we found a-lot of the cuticle oil packaging to be cumbersome to carry around. For example, some were in a shape of a nail polish bottle and with a brush applicator. This made it hard to re-apply on the go and would not fit inside most standard pockets comfortably.
Design Challenge
It was also design with the intention to help aid in the longevity of a manicure, and to take care of your nail health when removing nail polish, for both gel and regular polishes.
Solution
I partnered with Even Keel to create a product to provide relief to the growing dryness on hands and cuticles in response to over-washing and increase consumption of hand sanitizer. This was causing dry hands and crack cuticles and ever more pronounced in cold weather.
Branding & Design
Because we were going to introduce it under the Even Keel product line, we wanted to match the existing branding aesthetic and style. However, it was a new product category, we still to find a solution to not mix it up with the existing similar packaged products. I designed the label to be a new color: light blue to match Even Keel’s brand navy blue.
